The starting point

Book A Mechanic Online had a real business and real demand — but a website that couldn't keep up with it. The site was built on Wix, with no underlying stack to speak of: slow to load, hard to extend, and effectively invisible in search. Bookings leaned on manual steps, and there was no room to add the automotive-specific tooling the business wanted to grow into. For a business whose customers decide in the moment and book whoever's easiest to reach, a slow, hard-to-find site quietly loses work every day.

What we built

We rebuilt the platform from the ground up on a modern stack — engineered for speed, search and room to grow.

A fast, modern site on Next.js

Server-rendered, quick on mobile, and built to be extended rather than fought with.

SEO and AEO from the ground up

Structured to rank in Google and surface in the AI answer engines customers increasingly ask first — not bolted onto a template as an afterthought.

Live booking with DVSA MOT lookup

Customers check MOT status and book in a single flow, turning a search into a confirmed job.

Contact and booking funnels

Clear paths from “just looking” to “booked”, capturing enquiries a static page would have lost.

Built to extend

Architected to add automotive-tech integrations (registration lookup, service and MOT reminders, and more) as the business grows — without another rebuild.

Then we kept it running

The build didn't end at launch. Three months on, Smart Path IT continues to run the platform and provide day-to-day desktop and technical support — so the business gets one team for both the software and the everyday IT, with no hand-off between “the people who built it” and “the people who keep it working.” That's the Run & Build model in practice: we build the thing, then we're the ones who answer the phone when you need it.

“We had a website; now we've got a platform. It's quick, it turns up in search, and it actually books jobs — and if anything needs sorting, it's the same team on the end of the phone.”

— Al, Book A Mechanic Online

The outcome

A business that was being held back by its website now runs on a platform that's fast, found, and built for the motor trade — covering Kent and the South East, with the team that built it still behind it. As Book A Mechanic grows, the platform is ready to grow with it.
